Op 22 april aanstaande zal de 12e editie van het FSA Congres plaatsvinden in het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Noorderlicht Webdocs: One man and his theory – Julian Barbour
Tijd bestaat niet. Tot deze verrassende conclusie komt de Britse natuurkundige Julian Barbour in zijn in 1999 verschenen boek The End of Time.Julian Barbour begeeft zich op het grensvlak van de twee grote natuurkundige theorieen van deze eeuw: de algemene relativiteitstheorie van Albert Einstein, die een beschrijving van het heelal op grote schaal geeft, en de quantummechanica, de theorie die beschrijft hoe microscopisch kleine objecten zich gedragen. Sinds jaar en dag proberen natuurkundigen beide theorieen met elkaar in overeenstemming te brengen in de hoop één allesbeschrijvende theorie voor het heelal te vinden: de “Theorie van Alles”. Julian Barbour meent dat dat alleen kans van slagen heeft als we het concept ‘tijd’ laten varen. Dat heeft grote consequenties voor de manier waarop we over de fysische wereld na moeten denken.

Het semantisch web is over twee jaar alom tegenwoordig, voorspelt Nova
Spivack, oprichter van de semantische dienst Twine en Radar Networks.
Het semantisch web wordt beschouwd als de volgende fase van het
internet waarbij van alle informatie is voorzien van metadata. Dankzij
die metadata kan een applicatie zonder problemen onderscheid maken
tussen bijvoorbeeld een fan van Jan Smit de zanger en fans van Jan Smit
de helm-ontwerper.
Nova Spivack is oprichter van een aantal bedrijven dat zich op het
semantisch web richt. Afgelopen donderdag sprak hij tijdens de Next Web
